Guide
gengar works just as how you would imagine it, a sneaky hyper mobile assassin
both dream eater and hex are pretty crazy rn, dream eater for frail attackers and speedsters, and hex for tanky defenders and supporters. i personally prefer the hex moveset
you want to run full damage items on gengar, cuz it's extremely frail and stuff like focus band doesn't really help it (although it can come in clutch sometimes). slick spoon or shell bell is also good if you ain't confident stacking with sp atk specs. buddy barrier and energy amplifier are good alternatives as well
eject button is the safest battle item to run, although full heal can help you get those combos without having to deal with stuns, which is gengar's biggest counter. other items include x attack if you REALLY want that damage, potion to live a bit, heck even goal-getter works fine (but ONLY if you are stacking the sp atk specs)
gengar's ability levitate is so bad rn, basically a worse float stone
you can go through the wall by charging up the boosted attack, going through the wall and using will-o-wisp, you can also lick the lillipup/xatu and use the boosted, but this deals less damage
something about hex is that it deals more damage and resets cd not by just the poison from sludge bomb, but any status condition like burn, freeze, paralysis, etc
people also forget hex is a dash too, you can use it to gapclose, get over a wall, or run away
phantom ambush is a great tool for, you know, ambusing lonely enemies, it can also be used to get away
do note that while opponents can't see you when sneaking, there is a purple flame (or star if they have low frames) that they can see on top of their heads when you approach them, so they know that you're there
a good combo is phantom ambush, sludge bomb, hex, then unite move again, then hex some more
a good boost emblem loadout for gengar is 6 green, 7 black, and 2 white
one more thing about gengar, DON'T MISSCLICK OR YOU ARE SCREWED
