Big chonky dragon lost his main niche of backdoor ult-scoring with shield, so he’s pretty much relegated to a beam dispenser. To be fair, a 3-stage boosted Beam is likely still the strongest secure move in the game currently, and with the current meta being based entirely around ripping objectives, he is VERY highly desired.
Also currently a top choice in split jungle comps in tandem with Sylveon, the combo of that lane pressure + having beam by first Drednaw is huge.
Tl;dr just fly around and spam autos on things, your autos lower the cd of DDance, so more autos means faster stacks, means better Beams. If you don’t get every objective for your team, you’ve wasted your pick. Goodbye
We run Razor in place of buddy, since spamming DDance gives you a lot of procs, it makes your dueling very potent, and especially your lvl 5 ganks extremely oppressive. Razor procs scale on your atk stat, which you are raising with each DDance, so the returns are huge. Scope for all the autos you spam has good output as well. Atkweight is a passable option to make beams even chunkier. Survivability to get off those important Beams is very important, thus it is only advised to go double-dmg items if comfortable and confident on this guy (go buddy focus if you want more bulk).
Works Well With
An amazing support that can use heals and boost the damage of Dragonite through out the game.
An AOE support with help from Heavy Slam can disable the opponents and give dragonite enough time to stack up dragon dance to use Hyper Beam
Elephant pig can keep the enemy away from dragonite with great Aoe damage and Crowd Control.
