Guide
I invented this build during the Halloween event. I hated being hit by the over powered pumpkin move, so I learned to dodge it, and found that this dodging strategy is really good for ranked play as well. Therefore the goal of this build is to hurt your opponents while dodging most of their moves. This build is designed for Eldegoss, but the basic concepts can be used for every pokemon
Most people tend to stay in once place or move forward while in combat, but this is dumb because it means most moves are almost certainly going to hit you. When fighting Ranged Pokémon, strafe sideways, keeping them at the edge of your range, and all their moves will miss. Constantly moving is really important because without eject button most moves can’t be dodged after they begin. If you are fighting a Melee Pokémon, run backwards or around obstacles and they won’t be able to reach you. (If you use a melee Pokémon and are trying to convert this build, running around other ranged Pokémon in a circle right in front of them works fairly well)
Leaf Tornado is perfect for this because it grants you and your teammates lots of extra mobility. Use it first as a vicious attack (catching multiple opponents is preferred), then try to use it in combat to escape moves at a closer range. If you do get too close to the opponents, Cotton Spore defends you and deals damage to those enemies. Cotton Guard also works as a more defensive option for these circumstances
The reason skill is required for this build is because you have to both watch your opponents very carefully and manually aim your moves. You basically need to know every move the opponents can whip out and have a plan for dodging each one. You need to know what the starting animation for each of these moves is. You also should remember which moves your opponents have used so you know when to press your advantage and when to retreat. Since you are constantly moving and need to carefully place your movement buff, not manually aiming attacks means they will probably miss. This also applies to every other Pokémon. You can still use just a basic strafing strategy with this build, but it will obviously be more effective if you do this.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, try the Halloween event and focus only on the pumpkins for the above paragraphs strategy. It really helps train your brain to notice this and gives a lot of practice without overwhelming you.

Buddy Barrier is very important because it buffs your unite move. With Buddy Barrier, you can hover in the air for quite a while before you crash down because you're ally will have already been shielded. Focus Band and Choice Specs are less important but are still very useful. Focus Band is good at helping you survive longer when you do get hit. If you find that you almost never reach low health, however, another offensive item like Shell Bell, Wise Glasses or Energy Amplifier could be useful. Conversely, If you find that you often replace Cotton Spore with Cotton Guard, Choice Specs extra damage is less useful and could be switched out for Wise Glasses, Rocky Helmet, or Float Stone. Finally, Eject Button is great for situations when you need to quickly dodge/escape a devastating attack.
Works Well With
With his in-and-out playstyle, Lucario is a very good dodgy partner for Eldegoss. Eldegoss and Lucario together make an extremely strong early game as well.
Venusaur's Solar Beam/Sludge Bomb builds mean he has an even larger range than Eldegoss, and if the two split up and focus on one person at a time, the opponents won't be able to get to them or escape before dying. Conversely, Venusaurs Giga Drain/Petal Dance builds are perfect for Eldegoss to hide behind without Venusaur dying.
