Guide
You might see this build and think I'm completely out of my mind. Hear me out for a moment, though - Gengar actually makes for a decent toplaner. I wouldn't recommend taking this to your next tournament or for your Masters rank-up game, but it's very fun and surprisingly good in it's own right. It can even snowball into a carry that doesn't need the jungle!
Gengar's base Sp. Atk is actually surprisingly low. Even with only 3 dunks, Sp. Atk Specs beats Wise Glasses until lv. 14. Of course though, you're gonna get more than that. Gastly isn't great, so play rude, get whatever farm you can get and dunk whenever you can. It'll get you a bunch of EXP, an early lead and heals you whenever you dunk, so in a lot of cases you'll even get away with it.
Once you become a Haunter, you get to play the game. Using the large amount of dunks you've amassed, Lick your opponents towards you and Shadow Ball to shred their health bars.
You become far more lethal yet with Dream Eater, which sleeps an opponent and then lets you teleport behind them. It also essentially resets Shadow Ball with how low it's CD is, so Dream Eater > Shadow Ball > Dream Eater 2nd cast > Shadow Ball is a good combo.
You're actually decently bulky with Focus Band, Score Shield and the Dream Eater heal, but if you do get in trouble you can rip your last resort: Phantom Ambush. You become really fast and invisible, which you can use in myriad ways. You can retreat, but how about hitting someone with Shadow Ball and then using the 2nd activation to burst them down? Or even trying to score while invisible?
Gengar's not the best character, but this build has been really, really fun in my solo/duoq games. It just deletes people off the map and can carry games if you snowball hard enough. Happy haunting!
