Guide
Still no Resonant Guard for this site. Come on, guys.
This high-skill hinderance and displacement build is used specifically to help teammates in lots of different situations, especially stalling on defense. A good Blastoise player can stall an entire team of 5 on their own.
Now, onto the guide.
Start with Water Gun and immediately use it on the first wild Pokémon in the top path. It should be recharged by the time you reach the 2 wild Pokémon lined up. Hit both wild Pokémon with Water Gun. Skull Bash can do the same thing, but it does half the damage Water Gun does, so don't start with it.
At that point, you have 2 options: take the Baltoy in the middle, or push for stacks.
Aeos Cookie is extremely important, as this will boost your Resonant Guard's shield ability. This shield is based on your current max HP, so the higher it is, the more shield you get.
However, the number 1 thing you need to make sure you're NOT doing is feeding the opponent. Don't push for a single stack just to die. That's not worth it, especially since levels are extremely important on top path. Plus, you need to be alive for birds at 8:50.
Use Hydro Pump and Surf to displace and stun opponents so you and your teammates can score quickly. Use Eject Button to better position yourself so you can best defend your teammates.
A common stalling combo I like using is Surf, jump towards the target, immediately Hydro Pump to push them as far away as possible, then eject towards your teammates to assist their goal. Maybe throw in a Unite Move if you're struggling.
Tip: You can use Eject Button while using Blastoise's Unite Move to chase down opponents who are trying to avoid it.
You get an even bigger health boost when you use your Unite Move, thanks to the Buddy Barrier. Having a shield makes you useful for longer, especially when you need that last 100-point goal after Rayquaza.
Another cool thing: Buddy Barrier has a passive max HP bonus of 450, which further boosts Resonant Guard's shield.
Combining the efforts of Buddy Barrier, Aeos Cookie, Resonant Guard, and the healing effects of your own goal zone, you can be nearly indestructible when it comes to defense. I've used this stalling technique many times in my own goal zone, often leaving the battle with no goals scored.
If you want alternative item choices, Slick Spoon and Sp. Attack Specs are decent options for added damage. I'm currently running Spoon instead of Buddy Barrier.
This build works best with white, blue, and purple boost emblems for boosting HP and defenses. Prioritize HP over everything, as this will boost your Resonant Guard further.
Do not lower HP.
Free stats: Attack, Crit
Again, this build is mainly used for hinderance, displacement, and stalling, and will not usually get many KO's. While Blastoise's Rapid Spin moveset can carry in one way, this moveset can carry in another.
